March

All dressed up for Fasching!

March has been a more relaxing month. I thought February went by quickly, but March seems to be doing the same. We didn't have school on March 7th or 8th in celebration Fasching. It's like Carnival - a combination of Halloween costumes (not the scary ones) and Mardi Gras. I think it's basically a celebration just to have fun, because the winters can be so long and cold. Whatever the reason, there are big parties, parades and costumes, and I'll celebrate it, since we get days off for it :) We had a Fasching party at school on the Friday before. It's always fun to see the kids' costumes!

Boys just want to have fun!

For our extra long weekend for Fasching, Ashley and I took a trip to Athens!! It was incredible. They say Athens is dirty and has a lot of pollution. They cleaned up a lot of it when they hosted the Olympics. Yes, on super nice days you can still see some smog in the air, but it's not like L.A. It's still a gorgeous city to visit with so much history. In the 4 days we were there, we basically were able to see everything we wanted - all of the historical sites and the museum. If were were there longer, I would have loved to do some day trips to Delphi or other places. We'll just have to come back, and I'm really looking forward to checking out some of the islands in the summer!

Gotta love Greek Baklava!
Overall, Greece was amazing. We especially loved the discounts the men gave us on things we bought because we were young. haha They also would stand outside their restaurants and try to get your business by offering you free wine or drinks. Free wine? Okay, we're all yours! It was the perfect amount of time to spend in Athens and I can't wait to explore other parts of Greece. We came back to school the next week and taught for two days and then Ashley, Natalie, Rik and I left for Berlin. We had a  the PYP training for four days. It was a FABULOUS training. Our instructor was one of the women who first started the PYP and she was hilarious. That made the time go by faster. We learned a lot and the whole PYP started to click. It was also neat meeting other people from other schools and hearing how they liked working there. It was a bonus to see Megan there too. She was attending the training with some teachers from her school, so it was fun to hang out with them! Although I miss everyone at home, I am loving over here. I finally feel like I'm putting my education to use; I'm learning things every day; I'm meeting new people from all over the world and I'm able to travel and see things I never thought I would see. Seriously, if you asked me four years ago if I thought I'd be teaching abroad, I would have said no in an instant. I'm at a great school, working with fabulous teachers and meeting friends I'll have forever.

That being said, I miss family and friends so much from home every single day. There are so many experiences I want to share with you all, and I wish so much that Germany wasn't so far away. And remember, if you want to come visit, you always have a place to stay.

It's Book Week this week so there are a ton of different activities we're doing. Friday is dress up as a book character so I've got to start thinking of ideas...right now I might go with the mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. I have always loved mice (in books). I'm sure pictures will follow and I'll try my best to keep this updated more often. Know that I miss each and every one of you so much and love you all, and I can't wait to see you soon-ish I hope!
